Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

Attack on Madryn

On 10/3 2 Salaun, the city of Madryn was attacked by a large band of orcs and goblins. A two-pronged assault targeted both the main gate and Wihomarc’s tower. The thinly-defended gate was held by a small band of adventurers and archers from the garrison. The tower was the scene of fierce fighting, and the standard of the city was captured, before the defenders rallied and drove the enemy back from the tower. After this reverse, the war band retreated from the field, although the standard could not be recovered.

After the battle, it was discovered that six defenders were unaccounted for, three dwarves and three humans. The band of adventures set off in pursuit of the band, seeking to recapture the standard and learn what they could about the missing defenders.

Journey to Ui Brega

After the Attack on Madryn, the party were tasked with pursuing the standard of the city, and set out the next morning north in pursuit of the raiders. The band of raiders followed the road to Ragenwold, a small settlement about two day’s travel northeast of Madryn. On the morning of 10/5 2 Salaun, the party caught up with a small rearguard from the warband, and were able to ambush and destroy it. The next morning, they arrived in Ragenwold, where they delivered a cart full of supplies. From talking to the villagers of Ragenwold, the party confirmed the existence of an abandoned keep, Ui Brega, deep in the woods to the north of Ragenwold. The party set out at once. Heading north into the steadily rising uplands of the Ir-Fadha, the party began to see evidence of large movements of inhuman forces. Due to nerves, the party made camp before night fall. That evening, as they huddled around their fire, a large band of wolves began circling the party’s camp fire. Garak crippled one wolf that drew too close, but otherwise there was no blood shed on either side. In the morning, all evidence of the pack of wolves had vanished, and so the party continued their trip north to Ui Brega. Shortly after turning off from the cart-path they had followed, and entering the woods, Araidan spotted a small detachment of goblins, lying in wait to ambush the party, and the party was able to scatter the ambushers and proceed to Ui Brega without further interruption.

Upon reaching the main gate of the ruined fortress, the party saw evidence of significant foot traffic. After searching the perimeter of the ruins, the party entered through the main doors. The keep was abandoned over a hundred years ago, and has largely fallen into ruins. The upper levels are completely ruined, and large parts of the interior have collapsed or flooded. Several small bands of orcs, goblins and hobgoblins were found and defeated within the ruins, although the banner was nowhere to be found. In the basement of the keep was a prison, and there the party liberated the six missing captives. In the furthest cell was found another prisoner, the party did not expect to see. Elgar Millson, who disappeared with Araidan’s brother Dungarth, was locked away. When approached, Elgar alternated between screaming and sobbing, and has clearly gone insane. Gathering the captives and Elgar the party set out from the keep, to begin the journey back to Madryn.
